A Market with Nearly 400 Years of Tradition

The market was established by Queen Christina in 1642. It originally focused on bartering, particularly with the Sámi people. The market also held great social significance, as it was often the only time of the year people met. Here, news of marriages, deaths, and other events were shared. Taxes were paid, the priest was visited, and disputes were resolved by the district judge.

The market remains a gathering place for community, reunions, and trade.
