Majorsgården in Adolfström

Near the smelter is Majorsgården, which was built in the 1770s as a residence for the mill manager Major Georg Staël von Holstein. The mill went badly and the major became more interested in Lapland colonization and invested all his assets in cultivation. However, the Lapland summer was too short for the grain to ripen and in 1809 he returned impoverished to Stockholm. When the first settler came to the village in 1841, he took over the farm, which remained inhabited until 1955. Today, Majorsgården is considered to be one of Norrbotten’s oldest preserved residential buildings. Majorsgården was reopened in 1996 after an extensive restoration where the uniquely painted walls were brought out and the house recreated in the old style.

Majorsgården is open for guided tours 20 & 21st of July, 27 & 28th of July and 3 & 4 of August at 13:00.
