Galtispuoda Viewpoint

Take your car up to the mountains! Galtispuoda is an easily accessible low mountain just outside the community of Arjeplog, reaching 800 meters above sea level. Here, you’ll find beautiful nature and be easily impressed by the expansive views over Arjeplog’s sparkling waters and majestic mountains. A must-visit for anyone exploring Arjeplog.

For most of the year, the road is open all the way to the top. During winter, we recommend driving to Galtis ski resort instead.

The inland archipelago visible from the mountaintop is rich with prehistoric remains, some up to 10,000 years old. This landscape was abundant with fish and game for the Stone Age hunter-gatherers, and traces of settlements abound on the narrow sandy ridges extending into Lake Hornavan.

View from Galtispuoda

Lake Hornavan stretches 60 kilometers from the community of Arjeplog to the northwest, towards the Arctic Circle. From Galtispuoda, you can see almost the entire lake, which is also Sweden’s deepest lake at 221 meters.

We recommend taking a trip up to Galtis during sunset for a truly magical light over Arjeplog. Those who are lucky and wait until after dark may also have the chance to witness the Northern Lights.
